Oliver Glanser’s video message helped Crystal Palace come from behind and frustrate Chelsea, with the Austrian showing his players clips of the mistakes they made during the break at Stamford Bridge.

Palace boss Glasner relied on his analysts to come up with the footage so he could correct their mistakes for the second half. Palace looked much more of a threat after that video session, which is unusual even in this age of exhaustive Premier League analysis.

Speaking after securing their first point of the Premier League season, Glasner said: “For me it was clear when I saw it. We always found our sixes in great positions but we played into the pressure. When we started switching the game around, we got (better) moments.

‘The 1-0 was completely deserved at half-time, but then we made one or two adjustments and the players did a fantastic job in the second half. I felt that Chelsea, when we were in form, would not find spaces or moments and we were dangerous in our transitions, in our set pieces and finishing.’

Meanwhile, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca confirmed that striker Nicolas Jackson will sign a new contract.

Jackson was already contracted until 2031, but has now been given a contract until 2033. The club wants to reward him for his 14 goals in the Premier League last season.

“I’m very happy, Nicolas is doing a fantastic job for us, both on and off the ball,” Maresca said. “I have confidence (in him), and the club too.”

Asked if they will need to sign another striker in January, Maresca added: ‘We will see. I feel sorry for the players because when you finish the game you see the frustrations. But with the way we are playing, we are going to win games.’

Maresca was angry that Palace’s Will Hughes was not given a second yellow card when he stopped a charge by taking Cole Palmer on his back.

“The game would have been different,” he said. “The reaction of their bench to substitute him immediately was quite clear, but the referee saw it differently.”
