Oasis will not cast a shadow over the Etihad Stadium as Manchester City’s expansion dashes hopes of the revived band performing there next summer.

Instead, City stalwarts Noel and Liam Gallagher, who this morning announced they have reunited the band, will head to the city’s sprawling Heaton Park for a series of gigs.

Rumours of a revival have been circulating for months, with the Etihad Stadium cited as one of the favourites to host a number of dates.

However, Mail Sport understands that a major ongoing project, which will increase the stadium’s capacity to 61,000 and include a 400-bed hotel, will not be completed by the time the Burnage brothers take to the stage.

Work has already begun at the Etihad. City’s North Stand will be extended with a single level top floor featuring a sky bar overlooking the pitch, a stadium roof walk and a covered fan zone with food and beverage outlets and space for 3,000 people. There will also be a new club shop, museum and hotel.

The North Stand itself will open next season, while the hotel and other works are expected to be completed in 2026 as part of a £300m investment.

Oasis, who split in 2009, will play four shows at Heaton Park and Wembley, with shows in Cardiff, Edinburgh and Dublin to complete the 16-date schedule, with further European events potentially being added later.

Both brothers are avid City fans and Noel can be seen regularly at home and away games.
