Nick Grimshaw gives an update as he returns to BBC radio after he and his mother, 81, were gassed by criminal gang in Ibiza

Nick Grimshaw gave an update when he returned to BBC Radio 6 Music on Monday after returning home from his nightmare trip to Ibiza.

The presenter and his 81-year-old mother were gassed as they slept while burglars ransacked their rented holiday apartment on the island last week, MailOnline previously revealed.

Nick was celebrating his 40th birthday with his family when the property was targeted by a gang who have robbed a number of villas belonging to wealthy tourists over the past year.

On Sunday, he posted a photo on Instagram holding his dog and wrote: Happy holidays from me and Blob.

‘As a superfan of 6 Music I am super excited to say that I will be taking care of you all week at breakfast. See you tomorrow morning from 7:30.’

In another update on Monday, Nick shared a short clip to his Story after arriving at the studio, saying: “Good morning everyone, welcome to 6 Music.

‘I’ll be here today, and every day this week, looking after you on the 6 Music Breakfast Show. So come and listen.’

Nick and his mother Eileen were sedated after the gang pumped a sedative gas into the property where the star was sleeping. They waited for it to take effect before going in wearing hazmat suits and taking over the villa.

No one was reportedly injured in the incident, but it is believed that items were stolen.

According to a source, the gang had no idea who Nick was, but the villa was on a target list because it was known to be ‘used by wealthy clients’.

“Unfortunately, it’s a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, but it’s frightening to say the least,” the researchers said.

‘Nick was clearly upset, but felt it was best to avoid posting on social media.’

Before the incident, Nick was pictured in Ibiza last week enjoying a night out with his niece Liv and his fiancé Mesh Henry, where they enjoyed ice cream together.

It has now become known that Nick’s villa was on the list of a gang that distributed narcotic gases. The same gang is said to have carried out similar attacks by pumping narcotic gases into a house and then breaking in while wearing protective suits.

Other celebrities claim to have been the target of similar raids in the past, with Richard Hammond and Jenson Button among those who have spoken out about their experiences.

Former Top Gear presenter Richard and his wife Mindy were gassed and then robbed in 2018 while sleeping in their villa in Saint Tropez.

Richard, Mindy and 15 other guests were targeted by robbers, who knocked them unconscious with stun gas and then ransacked the rooms for money and jewelry.

Meanwhile, Jenson and his ex-wife Jessica were visiting friends in Saint Tropez in 2015 when thieves broke in and stole £300,000 worth of valuables, including Mrs Button’s engagement ring, believed to be worth £250,000.

It was claimed that the Formula One driver, then 35, and his wife were rendered unconscious by petrol pumped into the house through the air conditioning system.

A source close to Button said the grand prix star was “convinced” this was what had happened.

They added that Button and his friends were not affected by the raid as the burglars had ‘free rein’ due to the effect of the gas.
