Fears that they would have to reluctantly sell Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon were effectively allayed after a bid of around £33 million from Brighton for Yankuba Minteh was accepted. Moreover, Anderson is now on the verge of leaving the club.

As first reported by Mail sportAnderson was discussed in negotiations with Forest and Minteh was also offered to the club before Brighton emerged as frontrunners.

Newcastle held talks with Liverpool over a shock deal for Gordon, while Chelsea inquired about Isak, both exclusively revealed by Mailsport.

The club’s board and manager Eddie Howe did not want to lose either player, but they agreed that they had to trade to avoid points deductions.

Violating the PSR restrictions would likely see them deducted 10 points.

Both attackers now look set to stay at Newcastle, with Minteh and Anderson leaving for significant fees, totalling almost £70m between them.
