Nambour bus interchange fight: Wild moment good Samaritan tried to restrain a stranger with an MMA grapple before he allegedly coward punched another man and left him fighting for life

Wild footage has revealed the moment a good Samaritan tried to wrestle an erratic man to the ground before breaking the hold and an alleged coward punched a bystander.

Emergency services were called to the Nambour bus interchange on the Sunshine Coast north of BrisbaneSunday afternoon around 3 p.m. after reports that two men had been attacked.

Police found Adam Morton, 39, with serious head injuries and rushed him to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

James William, 31, lost a tooth after he intervened and tried to grab the younger attacker to the ground.

Footage captured by a bystander showed jiu-jitsu-trained Mr William wrapping his body around the man before sliding away and allegedly knocking Mr Morton unconscious.

Police allege the attacker then stomped on Mr Morton’s head a number of times before fleeing the scene. He still hasn’t been found.

Mr William said the man was ‘going crazy’ and felt obliged to get involved and try to protect others around him.

“If I hadn’t known jiu-jitsu (a martial art based on wrestling and submissions), I would have been in big trouble,” he said 9News.

“He targeted some poor guy, the king hit him, and before I could turn around and get over there, he’s been stomped on the head, probably ten times.”

Senior Sergeant Craig Mansfield said police were ‘concerned’ by the condition of the attacker, who ‘appeared to be under the influence of certain substances’.

“These were apparently random attacks on these two victims and appear to have been unprovoked at this stage,” he told reporters.

“It was a brutal attack.”

Mr Mansfield confirmed no weapons were involved in the attack but warned the public not to confront the man.

“He randomly attacked two people, so it’s potentially dangerous to approach,” Mansfield said.

The alleged attacker was described as white and wearing a gray sweater, dark shorts and thongs.

Anyone with information or images of the fight is asked to contact police.
