Matthew Perry’s heartbroken mother fights tears as she recalls their last conversation a year after his death

Matthew Perry’s heartbroken mother recalls one of their last conversations on the first anniversary of the Friends star’s death from ketamine overdose.

Suzanne Morrison revealed that they had their first in-person meeting in a long time, just before he passed away at the age of 54 at his Los Angeles home on October 28, 2023.

Perry was an avid real estate collector and his mother revealed that he showed her one of his new homes just before he died, which led to a candid conversation.

“He went through an interesting period just before he died when he showed me one of his new houses,” Suzanne said NBC’s Today show.

‘He came up to me and said, “I love you so much and I’m so happy to be with you now.” It was almost like it was a premonition or something.

“I didn’t think about it at the time, but how long had it been since we had a conversation like that?” It’s been years.’

“There was an inevitability to what was going to happen next to him, and he felt that very strongly,” she added.

“But he said, I’m not scared anymore, and it worried me… I think it was this new medication he was taking.”

Suzanne talked about her son’s final days alongside her partner, Perry’s stepfather, stepfather Keith Morrison, and three of his sisters.

Keith recalled the devastating moment they received the news that Perry had died.

“Someone called Suzanne and just said, Matthew is dead,” he told Today.

Recalling every parent’s worst fear, Suzanne said the caller told her, “Matthew is dead. Your son is dead.”

Suzanne added that she knew her son was “very lonely in his soul.”

“I am a very happy woman, but there was one problem, one problem that I could not overcome,” she said. “You need to stop blaming yourself because it’s tearing you apart.”

Keith said he believed Perry was sober at the time of his death.

But Suzanne shook her head to say no when Savannah Guthrie asked her if she believed her late son had remained on the wagon.

The couple said they welcomed the arrests of the people who allegedly supplied Perry with the ketamine that killed him.

“I was very happy,” said Suzanne, as Keith warned those involved.

“What I hope is that people who put themselves in the business of providing people with the drugs that will kill them are now aware,” he said.

“It doesn’t matter what your professional credentials are, you’re going to die, honey.”

Doctors Salvador Plasencia, 42, and Mark Chavez, 54, alleged drug dealers Jasveen “Ketamine Queen” Sangha, 41, and Eric Fleming, 54, and Perry’s live-in assistant Kenneth Iwamasa, 59, have all been charged.

Keith added that he “seemed sober” to Perry when he died – although Suzanne appeared to shake her head in disagreement.

“I don’t even know if he had relapsed in his mind,” Perry’s sister Madeline Morrison said.

Another sister, Caitlin Morrison, remembered Perry as someone who was “grumpy all the time but always funny.”

“When the people he loved were successful or when they were scared, he would do anything for you,” she said as she fought back tears.

“Really, all he ever wanted was to love and be loved. He had so much trouble feeling peace and I think he’s gotten to a point where he has.”

Perry’s family founded the Matthew Perry Foundation just days after his death, a charity that aims to support others suffering from addiction.

In a statement to People, they said, “It is important to us, as a family, to honor Matthew’s legacy.”

“The potential that the Matthew Perry Foundation has to help people suffering from this disease is something we are proud to showcase to the world.”
