Matthew Macfadyen and Keeley Hawes are looking forward to their ‘third act’ as a couple, once their children have left home.
The couple are the proud parents of a daughter Maggie (19) and a son Ralph (17). Matthew is also stepfather to Keeley’s son Myles (24) from her first marriage.
The 49-year-old Succession actor says he’s looking forward to spending time with his 48-year-old wife from the film Bodyguard and will be taking mini-vacations multiple times when they have more time to themselves.
He told CBS: “It’s like a third act. It’s exciting. We’re like, ‘Okay, mini-breaks!’ In the trenches when they’re little, it’s like, ‘This is it forever,’ but of course it’s not.
‘And then you realize that luckily we are very sweet, funny people who make you laugh and insult you.’

The 49-year-old Succession actor said he’s looking forward to spending quality time with his 48-year-old Bodyguard star wife and will be taking multiple mini-vacations when they have more time.
The star, who stars in the new films Deadpool and Wolverine, in which he plays Mr. Paradox opposite Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, admitted that this is the first time his children have been interested in his work.
Matthew said, “We don’t always look at each other’s stuff, and our kids definitely don’t look at our stuff. It’s a bit annoying – no interest. It keeps you humble.
“But they’ll definitely watch Deadpool. They suddenly perked up when they heard I was doing it. They finally showed a little bit of interest. My daughter said, ‘Do you want to meet Blake?’
Keeley and Matthew have been married since 2004 and Matthew is also stepfather to Myles McCallum, the son of Keeley and her first husband Spencer McCallum, a cartoonist.
The couple is praised for having one of the strongest marriages in Hollywood, as they always make time for each other despite their busy work schedules.
However, Matthew has admitted it wasn’t the best start, previously describing the moment he fell in love with Keeley as “horrible”.
Keeley was newly married to Spencer and mother of son Myles when she first met Matthew in 2002.
They met on the BBC spy series Spooks (known in the US as MI-5) and were spotted kissing in June of that year.

Still, Keeley insisted that nothing happened between them until her marriage ended. She said, “I’m sure no one would believe that we never had an affair, but we really didn’t.”
Keeley recounted the magical moment they first said the L-word: ‘Matthew just came right out and said “I love you” in the rain. I thought, “Oh boy, here we go.”‘
Her divorce from Spencer was finalized in 2004, and she married Matthew in November of that year. They welcomed their first child, daughter Maggie, the following month.
