Mason Mount has admitted he is ‘frustrated’ at having to retire again after suffering a muscle injury in Manchester United’s defeat to Brighton last week.

Mount did not appear at the Amex Stadium for the second half. Manager Erik ten Hag confirmed afterwards that the injury was the reason for the player’s withdrawal. He added that ‘we know Mason’s history’.

Mount made just 20 appearances in his first season at United, five of them in the Premier League, following a £60million move from Chelsea, mainly due to a calf injury which kept him out for four months.

With the Premier League entering a two-week international break after United’s clash with Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday, Mount’s multiple misses are an indication he will be out for a number of weeks.

He confirmed the news on social media, saying: ‘During the last game I had a little muscle problem. I had it checked and it looks like I’ll be out for a few games.
