Man United ‘see bid of £30m REJECTED for Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt with German club demanding fee of £42m’

  • Manchester United are keen to bring the Dutch central defender to Old Trafford

  • According to reports in Germany, United’s opening bid has been rejected

Manchester United have reportedly turned down a huge £30million fee for Bayern Munich centre-back Matthijs de Ligt

United were among the Premier League’s busiest recruiters during the summer transfer market, with both Joshua Zirkzee and defender Leny Yoro leaving for Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag is keen to reunite with his former Ajax captain De Ligt and made it public that United are interested in the centre-back ahead of their pre-season win over Rangers on Friday.

According to Bild’s head of football affairs Christian Falk, United have made an initial offer for the defender.

He tweeted: ‘Manchester United offer €35m (£30m) for Matthijs de Ligt. FC Bayern have rejected the offer.’

It was previously reported that De Ligt had agreed personal terms with the Manchester club as Ten Hag looks to bring in a second Dutch signing for the summer. However, there is currently no agreement between the two clubs.

De Ligt is currently enjoying an extended holiday following the Netherlands’ participation in Euro 2024, despite not playing a single match at the tournament.

The 24-year-old has enjoyed mixed success since joining Bayern from Juventus two years ago in a deal reportedly worth around £68million.

United are keen to offer the combative defender a long-term contract with the club as a sign of investment in a player who is looking to get back into top form after a few inconsistent years.
