The synopsis for Coup! reads: ‘Isolated on a coastal estate, a privileged journalist (Billy Magnussen) and his socialite wife (Sarah Gadon) hire a mysterious con man (Peter Sarsgaard) as their private chef.

‘When a plague descends on the island, the scheming cook rallies his colleagues to rise up and take over the mansion. Their employer suspects that the cook’s coup is part of a sinister agenda, and the games between master and servant escalate into full-blown class warfare.’

The supporting roles are played by Faran Tahir (Iron Man), Kristine Nielsen (The Gilded Age) and Fisher Stevens (Succession).

Writing-directing team Joseph Schuman and Austin Stark (The God Committee) said in a statement, “Coup! was a labor of love and it was an honor to work with Peter, Billy, Sarah and the rest of our incredible cast and crew.”

Peter recently revealed that he didn’t know Maggie was an actress when he first fell in love with her.

“I met Maggie at a dinner party, and I didn’t even know she was an actress. I didn’t know anything about her, but we just hit it off,” he said. People about their attraction to each other when they met in 2001.

It’s been two years since Maggie made her last major film project, The Lost Daughter, which she directed, and three years since she appeared in a major film role.

Despite her acting and writing hiatus, the versatile A-lister is reportedly set to direct a Bride Of Frankenstein remake, according to Collider.

The film will make its debut on Netflix and will feature Christian Bale and Maggie’s husband in the cast.

There is no release date confirmed for The Bride Of Frankenstein yet.
