Kirsten Dunst delights fans with surprise appearance at double screening of her cult classic films Bring It On and The Virgin Suicides

Fans of Kirsten Dunst were in for a special treat on Saturday, as the actress appeared at a double screening of two of her films, Bring It On and The Virgin Suicides, during a screening at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles.

The Virgin Suicides and Bring It On, both starring the 42-year-old actress, were released in 1999 and 2000 respectively and have since enjoyed cult classic status.

The Point Pleasant, New Jersey-born star showed up at the Cinespia event, dubbed the “Kirsten Dunst Slumber Party,” commemorating the 25th anniversary of the films’ release, Term reported.

The Oscar-nominated actress, who is married to 36-year-old actor Jesse Plemons, delighted her fans by reciting a line from the cheerleading comedy Bring It On, in which she played Torrance Shipman.

“I’m Torrance, your Captain Torrance. Let’s go, Toros!” Dunst said, referring to the film.

Dunst told the crowd at the Southern California cemetery that she was “deeply honored” by the turnout for her films, and thanked Cinespia and its founder John Wyatt.

“Oh my God, you guys — this is the craziest thing I’ve ever experienced in my life,” Dunst said. “I’m so overwhelmed. My friends and family are here, I’m going to watch with you.”

She added: ‘I haven’t seen any of these films myself since I was a teenager, with an audience.’

In Bring It On, directed by Peyton Reed, Dunst played Shipman, who sets out to lead her high school cheerleading team to the national championships after discovering that the previous captain had been stealing routines from another school.

The film starred Gabrielle Union, Eliza Dushku, Jesse Bradford, Clare Kramer and Nicole Bilderback, among others.

Bring It On was released in theaters in August 2000 and grossed $90 million worldwide, with $68 million in domestic box office revenue and $22 million in international revenue. Cash register Mojo reported.

The Virgin Suicides, a romantic drama directed by Sofia Coppola, is based on the 1993 book by author Jeffrey Eugenides and set in Detroit in 1975, starring Dunst as Lux Lisbon.

The film’s cast included Josh Hartnett, James Woods, Kathleen Turner, Michael Paré, Scott Glenn, Danny DeVito and AJ Cook.

According to Box Office Mojo, Virgin Suicides grossed $10.4 million worldwide, including $4.9 million domestically and $5.5 million internationally.

Cinespia, which shows films at the cemetery, will broadcast the last film of the 2024 summer season on September 14 with a screening of the 1985 film Pee-wee’s Big Adventure.

Movie star Paul Reubens, who died in July 2023, is buried at Hollywood Forever.
