Kendrick Lamar announced Sunday morning that he will headline the halftime show of Super Bowl LIX on Apple Music.
The 37-year-old Not Like Us rapper shared the announcement in an Instagram post with his 16.2 million followers, along with the NFL and his management company Roc Nation.
The surprise announcement is the latest notable development for the acclaimed artist following his heated public feud with fellow rapper Drake.
The 2025 performance will mark the second time Lamar has performed during the Super Bowl halftime show, but it’s the first time he’s headlined the highly-watched performance.
“Rap music is still the genre with the greatest impact to date,” Lamar said in a statement accompanying the video on social media.

The hitmaker’s announcement also coincided with the opening Sunday of the NFL season, when many of the league’s teams are in action, so fans were aware of the news.
Lamar’s last Super Bowl halftime performance came in 2022, when he took part in a hip-hop showcase featuring legends like Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, alongside veterans like Eminem and 50 Cent and R&B icon Mary J. Blige.
“Kendrick Lamar is truly a once in a generation artist and performer,” Roc Nation Jay-Z added in his own statement, according to the New York Times.
