Katie Holmes is already making a plan for life now that her daughter Suri Cruise is off to college and out of the house.
“My book club members are going to be irritated if they listen to me,” the 45-year-old actress said September issue of Town & Country“I say, ‘Let’s meet once a week.’”
The publication noted that Holmes’ group currently meets about five times a year, with the most recent meeting focused on Abraham Verghese’s 2023 book The Covenant of Water. (Holmes said, “I read a lot to quiet my mind.”)
Holmes, who has cherished Suri’s performances, shared how she plans to adjust as the 18-year-old reportedly prepares to move to Pittsburgh to study at Carnegie Mellon University.
According to the magazine, Suri is “interested in a career in fashion or acting.” Suri has lived with her mother in New York City for more than a decade.

Suri “is said to be interested in a career in fashion or acting,” the magazine reported, which comes as Suri is reportedly preparing to move to Pittsburgh to attend Carnegie Mellon University after living with her mother in New York City.
Carnegie Mellon has some notable names on its list of Alumni of the University of Fine Artsincluding Oscar-winning actress Holly Hunter, 66, Hamilton star Leslie Odom Jr., 43, Emmy winner Billy Porter, 54, Star Trek actor Zachary Quinto, 47, Cheers star Ted Danson, 76, and the late pop art icon Andy Warhol.
Town & Country noted that Suri “has contributed vocals to songs in two of Holmes’ films” — the 2023 drama Rare Objects and the 2022 romantic drama Alone Together.
“I’m proud of my daughter,” Holmes told Town & Country of her daughter with ex-husband Tom Cruise, 62. “Of course I’ll miss being close, but I’m really proud of her and I’m happy.”
Holmes, speaking to Glamour said in April 2023 that she wanted to encourage Suri’s performances in her projects.
“I hope she always does something in my films,” Holmes said. “I always ask her.”
Holmes said that “both experiences came from what I love about our industry: when you have projects, you become a family with people.”
Holmes said she aimed to create a “safe, beautiful, creative space” where Suri could develop her skills as an artist.
“It comes from a place of love for me to include someone I love very much,” Holmes said. “It was very meaningful for me to have her there because she is my heart.”

Holmes has given Suri a platform to make her voice heard in two films she has directed and starred in, the 2023 drama Rare Objects and the 2022 romantic drama Alone Together.

The Dawson’s Creek actress, who posed for a number of artistic photos published in the magazine, reflected on her early adulthood, saying, “I remember being at this age, this time of beginnings.
“It’s exciting to learn more about yourself. I enjoyed that time, so it makes me happy to think about it that way.”
Suri’s college destination was revealed in June when she was photographed in a TikTok clip wearing a red sweater with the university’s name on it, which a friend of hers subsequently deleted.
The clip, which was set to Miley Cyrus’ Hannah Montana song I’ll Always Remember You, was captioned, “LaG commitment day.”
It referred to the New York City high school that focuses on performing arts, Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, from which Suri graduated in June.
“She’s a smart girl and she’s turning into a very intelligent, mature young woman,” an insider told DailyMail.com in June about Suri. “She has a close-knit group of loyal friends and she knows exactly where she’s coming from.”
