Jimmy Nail, 70, makes rare public appearance at Death Of England: The Plays press night

Jimmy Nail made a rare public appearance at the press night screening of Death Of England: The Plays at @sohoplace in London on Tuesday.

The 70-year-old Auf Wiedersehen, Pet star looked dapper at the event, wearing a navy jacket and black jeans.

The actor also wore a light pink shirt and brown shoes and completed his look with sunglasses.

Jimmy was born in 1954 in Longbenton, north Tyneside.

He played the role of bricklayer Leonard ‘Oz’ Osbourne in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, despite originally auditioning to be an extra.

In 1985, his cover of Rose Royce’s Love Don’t Live Here Anymore became a huge hit in the UK and in 1992 he returned to the charts with Ain’t No Doubt, which reached number one.

In 1994, he released Crocodile Shoes for the TV drama Crocodile Shoes, which reached number four in the charts.

In 1996, when he starred in Crocodile Shoes, Jimmy was the highest paid TV actor in the UK, earning almost £1 million.

Despite this financial success, Jimmy gave up his acting career the following year to concentrate on music.

“I love singing,” he said earlier PennyBlackMusic‘I was an accidental actor.

‘Music was always my first love, my real passion. I just had to prove myself and acting roles were a step on the way. It was a stroke of luck that I hit the jackpot as an actor.’

In 2014, Jimmy was part of Sting’s Last Ship stage musical project.
