Jennifer Hudson revealed that her late father Samuel Simpson had a total of 27 children.
The 42-year-old singer recalled how she discovered she had 26 siblings, most of whom she still hasn’t met.
While appearing on Wednesday’s podcast episode of Your Mama’s Kitchen, she told host Michele Norris:[There’s] a lot of us. Apparently he had 27 children.’
The Dreamgirls star – who recently said she feels “great” in her relationship with Common after confirming her romance with the rapper five months ago – also said she is the youngest child of them all.
“That’s a lot of kids,” she said, before adding that her father, who had 27 children, “was what we were always told.”

“I’ve never met them all, but that’s the point,” she continued.
She said she made a goal as a teenager to meet them all, after learning she actually had many more siblings than she thought.
“I’m a family person, and when I turned sixteen I thought: I want to look for Sam, that’s what we call him, and I want to meet all my brothers and sisters.”
“My dream was to have all of us at this big Thanksgiving or Christmas table, and all of us eating together. That was my goal at sixteen.”
She said her father’s side helped connect the siblings.
“When my grandmother passed away, my siblings said, ‘You all have a sister who can really sing, you should meet her,’” she said. “And in the end we all came together.”
She explained that before his death in 1999, her father was told he had eleven daughters and seventeen sons.
The actress said she initially only knew about the two siblings her father shared with her late mother Darnell Donerson.

She explained that before his death in 1999, her father was told that her father had eleven daughters and seventeen sons. The actress said she initially only knew about the two siblings her father shared with her late mother Darnell Donerson; seen in October 2008
Before her brother’s death, she said she met six or seven other siblings. “We found quite a few,” Hudson said. “And I’m the youngest of them all.” She also explained that she was raised by her mother before later building a relationship with her father; seen in February 2023
She thought she only had one brother Jason Hudson and one sister Julia Hudson, before later finding out she had many more siblings.
Her mother and her brother Jason were shot dead at their family’s Chicago home in October 2008 by Julia’s estranged husband William Balfour.
Before her brother’s death, she said she met six or seven other siblings.
“We found quite a few,” Hudson said. “And I’m the youngest of them all.”
She also explained that she was raised by her mother before later building a relationship with her father.
