Ilkay Gundogan is reportedly set to leave Barcelona after just one season.

Gundogan left Manchester City after seven seasons and opted for Barcelona in June last year.

However, he only signed a two-year contract and is now in the final year of his contract.

It looks like Gundogan is set to leave in the summer transfer window.

According to the Spanish publication Sport, The German international is said to have informed the club that he wants to leave the La Liga powerhouse.

It would explain why Gundogan was not in Barcelona’s matchday squad at all for the La Liga season opener, which they won 2-1 against Valencia.

The report states that Gundogan has told the coaching staff that he has had ‘enough’ and hopes all parties can help him find a way out of the club.

As for the 33-year-old’s possible next destination, the report claims he has several admirers in Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

One man who appears set to sign Gundogan, however, is Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho.

The 61-year-old joined Fenerbach in June and has already been active in the transfer market, with Caglar Soyuncu, Cenk Tosun and Youssef En-Nesyri all handed permanent contracts, while he picked up Allan Saint-Maximin on loan from Al-Ahli.

According to the report, Mourinho is prepared to go to any lengths to land Gundogan, such is his desire to bring him to Fenerbahce.

The chances of Gundogan moving to Turkey are increased by the fact that he was born to Turkish parents.

Gundogan previously met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in 2018, but the meeting sparked controversy after the midfielder called Erdogan “my president” despite the fact that he is not a Turkish citizen.
