Granit Xhaka will undergo tests for a possible adductor injury, according to a report.

The midfielder has been a key part of Switzerland’s form at Euro 2024, with the team one of the most impressive sides at the tournament having reached the quarter-finals.

They face England on Saturday but could be without one of their key players depending on the results of Xhaka’s tests.

The former Arsenal captain has played every game for his team at the tournament so far, continuing his fine form after a stellar season at club level with Bayer Leverkusen.

According to LookHowever, he has to undergo an MRI scan due to adductor problems, the results of which are expected soon.

Xhaka received treatment in the first half of his team’s 2-0 win over Italy in the round of 16, but he finished the match apparently without further problems.

The 31-year-old player appeared to be suffering from the pain brought on by the match, prompting him to undergo testing.

Manager Murat Yakin has so far employed a three-back system in Germany with Switzerland, the same system Xhaka was used to under Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen.

The midfielder played 50 games for Leverkusen, who won the Bundesliga undefeated, only suffering a defeat in the Europa League final against Atalanta.

For Switzerland he played alongside Nottingham Forest’s Remo Freuler, but his team may have to find a solution for his absence if test results bring bad news.

England are battling injuries ahead of Saturday, with Kieran Trippier being taken off early due to an injury sustained during the match.

Luke Shaw, who is training with the team, has yet to play a minute, so Gareth Southgate could be racking his brains to find a solution for that position.
