Glamorous journalist reveals health scare after replacing her breast implants

A journalist has revealed that she contracted a bacterial infection during surgery to replace her silicone breast implants.

Mariana Martins from Brazil shared a video on her Instagram on Tuesday in which she explains that she underwent surgery in March and that she experienced a burning sensation in the days following the procedure.

After speaking with the surgeon, the former reporter for Record Goiás and TV Anhanguera discovered that fluid had accumulated under a scar. She had a piece of tissue sent to a laboratory for further examination.

The test results were announced in late June, the evening before her wedding, and showed that she had contracted a mycobacterial infection.

Now Martins has had to postpone her wedding. She says she is ‘fighting’ but she doesn’t know how long it will take for her infection to clear up.

“My infectious disease specialist was adamant that I got the virus during the surgery, but he couldn’t tell if it was on the prosthesis or somewhere else,” Martins said in the video.

“He was categorical: ‘You didn’t have it before the surgery, you got it during the surgery,’” she added.

Martins followed her doctor’s advice and underwent surgery on July 10 to remove the implants.

She admitted that the months of uncertainty leading up to the surgery and the weeks afterward brought a lot of anxiety.

Mariana Martins said it will take almost

Mariana Martins said it will take almost “a year and a half of antibiotics” to fully recover after her breast prostheses were removed due to bacteria that built up following a procedure in March to replace the silicone in her breasts.

“It is God who supports me and gives me strength. There have been many moments of pain and uncertainty,” Martins said.

“I don’t really know what this infection is. It’s an infection that takes a long time to heal,” she added.

‘The treatment can last up to a year and a half with antibiotics. So far I don’t know how long this treatment will last.’

The bacteria can cause tuberculosis and leprosy. Some symptoms include weight loss, cough, weakness or fatigue, fever and chills, and loss of appetite.

“I’m fighting, I’m going to get through this. I want to believe that everything is going to be okay in my marriage and that my health is 100 percent restored,” said Martins, who is due to celebrate her wedding in August.
