Mueang Pattaya Police Station successfully rescued a foreign man from joining the Pattaya Flying Club after a suicide attempt at a beachfront condominium on Thappaya Road in Pattaya today, December 4.
Police rushed to the 22-storey condominium following reports of a suicide attempt. The man, estimated to be between 70 and 75 years old, was spotted on the 21st floor, standing precariously on the ledge outside a condo window.
According to Amarin TV, the man, identified only as Robert, previously attempted to take his own life but was rescued in time. His nationality was not disclosed.
Officers spent over 30 minutes trying to persuade Robert to abandon his plan but he repeatedly demanded they contact his embassy and ignored their pleas.
Eventually, officers seized an opportunity when his attention was diverted and safely pulled him back inside the condominium. Fortunately, neither Robert nor the officers were injured during the incident.
Police escorted him to the building’s lobby to rest before contacting his lawyer. Arrangements were made to transport him to a hospital for mental health support.
The reasons behind his suicide attempt remain unclear, and the report did not provide details regarding any mental health conditions.
Suicide attempts in Pattaya are frequent. On November 8, an unemployed Thai man climbed a coconut tree to take his own life. He fell but survived and was rescued by a passerby.
On the same day, a 34 year old French national survived with serious injuries after allegedly attempting suicide in a Phuket hotel. The motive for his suicide decision was not revealed in the report, nor was the update on his injury.
Another similar story was reported in Bangkok on November 22, when a 12 year old brave Thai boy jumped into the Chao Phraya River to save a 17 year old girl from attempting suicide. The woman reportedly jumped from the Krung Thep Bridge over the river. The boy was later hailed as a hero by Thai netizens.
