A devastating fire engulfed a two-storey home in Pak Jan, Nakhon Luang, Ayutthaya province, leaving the property in ruins with damages estimated at over 5 million baht. The blaze, which occurred yesterday, November 17, at 10pm, forced a 69 year old retired teacher, Suchin, to flee for his life.
The incident unfolded rapidly as police and local firefighters were alerted to the fire. Upon arrival, they found the house, constructed with a concrete ground floor and a wooden upper floor, being consumed by flames, exacerbated by strong winds.
Two cars parked in front of the house had to be moved to safety to prevent further damage.
Suchin revealed that he was relaxing on the ground floor when he heard a commotion outside. Upon checking, he quickly realised that his home was on fire. The urgency of the situation was underscored by the chaotic sounds of alarmed neighbours.
Firefighters worked tirelessly for about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported, but Suchin’s home was completely destroyed.
Suchin, who lived alone, suspects the fire might have been caused by an electrical short circuit, pointing to a large electrical control panel located on the upper floor as a possible source of the blaze.
The area was cordoned off and forensic police of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya conducted a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire. The damage, however, was extensive with Suchin estimating the extent of the destruction to be around 5 million baht, reported KhaoSod.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of fire safety measures and ensuring electrical systems are regularly checked and maintained.
As investigations proceed, the focus will remain on uncovering the specific cause of the fire and ensuring that steps are taken to mitigate such risks in the future. This incident, while devastating, serves as a critical reminder for homeowners to review and update their fire safety precautions regularly.
