Football fans are impressed by the Premier League’s new goal board animation, with some claiming the broadcasters have ‘upped their game’.

With the new Premier League season kicking off this weekend, Premier League Productions has developed a series of new scoreboard animations that change when each club scores a goal.

Each club is represented in the animation by a separate emblem, icon or traditional feature of their club. Fans online debate who has the best graphic representation.

Liverpool’s animation features a stunning image of a Liverbird, which appears on the club’s crest and is synonymous with the city.

After Brighton scored against Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday, Premier League Productions showed an animation of a seagull flying across the scoreboard, earning the south coast team the nickname ‘The Seagulls’.

Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka’s goals for Arsenal in their 2-0 win over Wolves saw a cannon appear on the scoreboard, which then spelled out the word ‘GOAL’. Arsenal are known as the Gunners and have a cannon on their crest, as the club was founded by members of the Royal Arsenal armaments factory in Woolwich, London.

Man United secured a late win against Fulham on Friday night, with new signing Joshua Zirkzee scoring in what was a dream debut. After the Red Devils’ goal went in, the scoreboard showed a pair of pitchforks and the word ‘GOAL’ against a fiery background.

Newcastle’s animation also caused a stir online, with the scoreboard changing to the club’s black and white stripes and the text ‘SHOW ARMY’ displayed.

Many people are impressed with the graphics. One fan wrote: ‘The Premier League has really stepped it up a notch.’

“Premier League Productions, you have outdone yourselves,” added another, noting that the broadcaster had also added specific graphics for goalscorers.

‘Props to the designer(s) behind this one. So glad the PL is back,’ added another.

“Ours are rubbish, Brighton and Arsenal look great,” said one, while another added: “United and Arsenal look great.”

“This is what you get when you give designers creative freedom. United’s is insanely good,” added another.
