Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has bizarrely claimed: ‘I’m not Harry Potter’ after his team’s crushing defeat to Liverpool.

The Red Devils suffered their second defeat in a row on Sunday. Luis Diaz scored twice and Mohamed Salah scored in the second half at Old Trafford.

The latest defeat came after Erik ten Hag’s team lost to Brighton last week, with the Dutchman already coming under fire.

And in his post-match press conference he proclaimed he is ‘not Harry Potter’ and insisted new £51million signing Manuel Ugarte will not be a quick fix to United’s problems.

He said, ‘so this is another one. We have to build them into the team and that’s going to take time. So it’s not like I’m Harry Potter and that’s what you have to acknowledge.

‘If you see Manuel Ugarte, he hasn’t played so far in the season. Not a single minute of play and so he has to build up his fitness and then we have to build them up in the team and then I’m sure he will contribute to our team.

‘He will be an important player, but that will take a few weeks, maybe even months, and I think that counts for more plays, for example Joshua Zirkzee, he has made big steps in the last three four weeks. I am very happy with his performance today.

In his post-match interview with Sky Sports, Ten Hag admitted that Liverpool were the better team and that his team made several mistakes.

He said: ‘We made mistakes, and they were very clinical in their finishing, and they did very well.

“I don’t think so. When I see all the chances we gave away, I don’t think that happened. I think we make mistakes.

‘All three goals were mistakes from us, individual mistakes, maybe the last one you can debate, where is our double six, but all the others, I think Liverpool were brilliant how they took over, the turnover and how they finished was so good, but it didn’t do it. And I saw the Xg, it wasn’t that high.

‘It’s clear they deserve it Liverpool, and we have to be humble. We have to take this and improve our game.’
