Enchanting Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired Maine home with rugged coastal views lists for $5 million

An enchanting Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired Maine home overlooking the rugged coastline is for sale for just under $5 million.

The 5,000-square-foot home, located on Buckmaster Neck in Stonington — about a four-hour drive from Augusta — is for sale with sweeping views of Deer Isle Thorofare and the surrounding islands.

The three-bedroom, two-bathroom home was designed by local architect James W. Schildroth, whose creativity was focused on making it resemble the home of Frank Lloyd Wright, the late American designer, architect, lecturer and writer.

Schildroth specifically drew on Wright’s “groundbreaking philosophies” to create a “harmonious, spiritual, sleek and functional” space, the real estate listing.

Completed in 2001, the unique home features an abundance of wood finishes that pay homage to Wright’s favorite red cypress tree.

The house, which sits on 13.11 acres of land and 814 feet of shoreline, is divided into three and a half floors that form part of “an interesting and functional layout.”

The exterior entrance to the house is clad in stone and wood and features a three-car garage.

The front door allows plenty of natural light to enter through the wood-clad walls and ceilings in the living room.

The large bathroom features wood and sage green tiles on the floor and in the glass walk-in shower.

Surrounding the house are rows of trees and flowering shrubs, along with a frog pond, a waterfall and several stone lanterns made by the late Allen Haskell – a noted ‘horticulturist’ with an eye for gardens.

The home’s current owners purchased the land in 1996 and completed construction in 2001, real estate agent Joseph Sortwell said Bangor Daily News.

“It is one of the best built homes along the coast. Every detail was taken into consideration during construction.”
