Viewers called the 2024 Emmys “boring” and “predictable” and strongly criticized the “woke” political comments made during the awards ceremony.
Hollywood’s hottest actors gathered at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday night for the 76th annual Primetime Emmy Awards.
Hosted by Dan Levy and Eugene Levy, the event honored the year’s biggest TV shows, actors and actresses, with The Bear, Baby Reindeer and Shogun taking home the most awards.
But many people watching the event from home took to X (formerly Twitter) to criticize the awards ceremony’s lack of “creativity” during the event.
One person strongly felt that the three-hour show was “just people winning awards” and that there was nothing exciting like performances or comedy monologues, while another thought it was “ridiculous” to see the same people and shows winning over and over again.
Viewers have slammed the 2024 Emmys as “boring” and “predictable” — and have complained fiercely about the “woke” political jabs made during the awards show. Hosts Dan and Eugene Levy are featured
“Emmys have been boring for a while now. They pick one show in comedy and drama and give it all awards. No excitement, no surprises, nothing,” one wrote.
“It’s getting boring and ridiculous seeing the same faces winning over and over again,” agreed another.
“The Emmys are absolutely the most boring awards show in the world,” someone else tweeted.
“What a boring Emmys,” read a fourth tweet, while a fifth simply said, “Emmys so predictable and so boring.”
“I’m sorry but the Emmys show is extremely boring. It’s not sustainable to entertain the TV audience for three hours with only people winning awards,” another user fumed.
“Be more creative and have performances, less talking and a little less opening lines.”
“If there was an Emmy Award for most boring show, the Emmys would be won in a heartbeat tonight,” someone else joked.
‘The Emmys really need an overhaul. It’s so boring and uninspired that they keep giving out the same shows year after year,’ wrote someone else.

Others were unhappy with the political commentary that was evident throughout the speeches throughout the evening.
At one point during the show, Selena Gomez sarcastically referenced JD Vance’s now-infamous statement about his “childless cat lady.”
The singer appeared on stage alongside her Only Murders In The Building co-stars and Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series nominees Steve Martin and Martin Short.
“Steve, I just want to tell you what an honor it is for me to work with someone who looks like he fell and can’t get up,” Martin said.
“And I want to tell you what an honor it is for me to be able to work with someone who looks like a former female tennis champion,” Steve added.
Selena then responded, “And let me just say what an honor it is to work with two men who are so far from becoming childless cat ladies.”
Murphy Brown star Candice Bergen also referenced JD’s comment when she presented the award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series.
“Today, a Republican candidate for vice president would never attack a woman for having children. So as they say, my work here is done. Meow,” she said.
Additionally, The Bear star Liza Colon-Zayas took a moment during her acceptance speech to encourage viewers to vote.
“Thank you for giving me a new life with this show, and to all the Latinas watching me, keep the faith and vote. Vote for your rights,” she told the audience.
Social media users did not appreciate the many political references, with some even writing that they were ‘turning off’ the show for that reason.

I turned it around [off] at the first mention of anything political. I don’t care who it was for or against, I can’t stand celebrities talking politics at awards shows,’ someone said afterwards. ‘Ugh… the Emmys aren’t the same anymore.’
“The Emmys and other pop culture events shouldn’t be used to take political positions or call attention to social issues. People watch these shows to escape from that and take a mental break,” another agreed.
A third person added: ‘There’s nothing more fun than watching rich actors try to get their political message across at the Emmys (for free)’
“As soon as the Emmys became political, I turned it off,” another user revealed. “What makes people in Hollywood think that Americans care about their opinion? That it carries more weight than any American’s?”
“Emmy awards – still shit, still political, still boring. Took me 30 seconds to turn it off. LOL,” read another tweet.
“I used to watch the Emmys in the 80s and 90s, but lately it’s gotten so WOKE I don’t watch anymore,” said another.
