DHL Global Forwarding Thailand is upping the ante in the logistics game with the launch of its brand-new International Multimodal Hub in Bangkok, a 480-square-metre facility at Suvarnabhumi Airport’s Free Zone 3.

This cutting-edge hub not only positions Thailand as a logistics powerhouse in Southeast Asia but also offers seamless connections across road, air, and sea, streamlining the entire supply chain process, said Vincent Yong, Managing Director of DHL Global Forwarding Thailand.

“One of the major advantages of the DHL International Multimodal Hub is that customs clearance can now be centralised and conducted within Bangkok, rather than at the borders as before.”

This strategic shift is designed to slash transit times and enhance delivery efficiency across the board, marking a turning point for Thailand’s logistics landscape.

The facility represents more than just added warehouse space; it’s a high-security hub, equipped with CCTV, 24/7 customs clearance, and specialised storage for high-value goods. Importantly, it waives Exporter of Record and Importer of Record requirements for transit shipments, further simplifying logistics, said Vincent.

“The DHL International Multimodal Hub in Thailand has helped shift the perspective from ‘landlocked’ to ‘land-linked’, enabling clearer connectivity while emphasising local engagement – thinking global, acting local.”

Yong’s vision aligns with Thailand’s ambitions. Launched in collaboration with the Airports of Thailand (AOT) and Thai Customs, the Multimodal Transportation Centre aims to streamline trade and elevate Thailand’s status as a regional logistics hub. DHL’s AsiaConnect and AsiaConnect+ networks, operating through this hub, will connect Southeast Asia and beyond, benefitting neighbouring countries like Laos.

Bruno Selmoni, DHL’s vice president for road freight, highlighted road freight’s renewed importance.

“Moving goods through a combination of transport modes in specific rail and road routes can result in faster door-to-door lead time compared with ocean freight, with lower cost than air freight.”

DHL’s commitment to digitisation, sustainable road freight, and streamlined cross-border policies signifies that Thailand is set to become an essential logistics player in Southeast Asia, reported The Nation.

“Currently, there are only three such multimodal facilities in Thailand, and we are proud to be one of them.”
