Caoimhin Kelleher has promised to cause Liverpool manager Arne Slot a headache by putting in another man-of-the-match display against Chelsea.

Kelleher defied the Londoners in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley in 2022 and capped his stellar performance by scoring the winning penalty in the shootout. He also kept another clean sheet as Jurgen Klopp’s children lifted the trophy against the same opponents last season.

Now 25, the Irishman has the chance to impress even more at Anfield on Sunday, with regular goalkeeper Alisson away for a few weeks with a hamstring injury.

‘My intention is to give the manager something to think about, perhaps to give him a headache.

‘If I’m playing so well, how can he take me out, something like that.

‘That’s where my head is. . . to at least put some pressure on.’

Liverpool have rejected bids from Nottingham Forest for Kelleher this season, but his future at Anfield is clouded by the impending arrival of highly-rated Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili next summer.

“I want to be the main goalkeeper, I want to be number one week in, week out, that’s the most important thing,” he added.

“It’s fun to be involved in a team that’s competing for things and to be there, but I think every player will say the same thing: they want to be one of the key players.”
