Burnley completed the signing of Tunisian midfielder Hannibal Mejbri from Manchester United on Wednesday morning.

The 21-year-old, who made 13 first-team appearances for United after coming through the club’s youth system, will cost Burnley an initial transfer fee of £5.4m, which could rise to £9.4m with bonuses.

The deal also includes a sell-on clause and an option for United to buy back Hannibal for a pre-determined price.

Burnley’s social media team have become famous in recent seasons for the way they announce new signings, and the Hannibal deal was no exception.

With the country in an uproar over news of the Gallagher brothers’ impending reunion, Burnley decided to edit the music video – and lyrics – for the 1995 mega-hit ‘Wonderwall’.

The championship club tweeted a 56-second video, much of which was lifted directly from the official Oasis video and ended with Hannibal holding a guitar.

However, AI was used to make it sound like Liam Gallagher was singing, “You’re my Hannibal,” instead of, “You’re my Wonderwall.”

Meanwhile, Burnley, referring to the famous phrase ‘because maybe’, captioned their tweet: ‘Because Mejbri’.

Burnley’s latest transfer announcement has been well received by fans on X (formerly Twitter).

One of them commented: ‘Elite! Well played by the admin.’ Another called it ‘creativity at its best.’

Meanwhile, Hannibal told burnleyfootballclub.com: ‘I’m really excited. Really happy to be here and I can’t wait to see the fans.

‘I’ve played Burnley before at Turf Moor and the atmosphere was great.

‘After I spoke to the coach [Scott Parker] The project sounded good to me and I hope we can make it a success.’

United released a 190-word statement on the official club website.

The final 140 words of United’s statement read: ‘Hannibal became the 239th graduate of our academy in 2021 when he made his first-team debut against Wolves, just three days after being named our Denzil Haroun Reserve Player of the Year.

‘He scored his only goal for the Reds in 2023, from long range in a 3-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford.

‘The midfielder spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Championship club Birmingham City and the second half of last season at Spanish club Sevilla.

‘After being part of Erik ten Hag’s squad for the pre-season and start of 2024/25, he now joins Burnley, who are looking to return to the Premier League as quickly as possible under new manager Scott Parker after last season’s relegation.

‘We wish you the best of luck with your next steps, Hannibal!’
