Abbie Chatfield has joined FBoy Island after the second season premiered last week.
The presenter defended the reality dating show against critics who say it portrays men in a bad light.
“We joke about patriarchy and men, but we also don’t want to be too serious. That scares everyone. It’s a very complex tone to strike,” says the 29-year-old news.com.au.
“If you’re a hardcore feminist, you’re not going to learn anything from this show. You can enjoy it, you can have fun with it, you can digest it. But you’re not going to think, ‘Wow, mind-blowing,’” she added.
“But I think it’s really good for the average reality TV audience, who may even be a little conservative or ignorant, to watch this show and hear easy-to-digest little nuggets of feminism sprinkled throughout a dramatic reality show.”
Abbie went on to say that the show allows her to “call out sexism on the spot”, adding: “I don’t think there’s any other show where a presenter is allowed to do that”.
This came after Abbie criticised the Logies for not nominating the series due to a lack of nominations.

Abbie quickly reshared the post, adding her own cutting comment beneath the image.
“If only we were nominated for something! Robbed!” the 29-year-old wrote, referring to the reality show’s lack of nominations in this year’s Logies round-up.
A new cast of handsome FBoys and Nice Guys now compete for love or $50,000 cash in the second season of Chatfield’s matchmaking show.
Krystal Thomas, Ally Wood and Nicole Miltrov are tasked with scouring the dating market to determine which men are out for love and which are just after money.
The men vying for their attention include account manager Wes, 28, music teacher Dart, 28, stand-up comedian Lewis, 30, and stripper Mitch, 27, from Victoria.

Abbie went on to say that the show gives her the opportunity to “expose sexism in the moment,” adding: “I don’t think any other show has a presenter who’s allowed to do that.”
Representing South Australia are 25-year-old electrician Doug, 30-year-old basketball player Nuggett, 34-year-old youth worker Norman and 32-year-old gym manager Paddy.
Construction worker Sean, 23, and fashion-conscious woman Timothy, 32, are the only two singles from Western Australia.
The Queenslanders include 35-year-old ex-serviceman Aaron, 27-year-old real estate agent Jack and 25-year-old former model Joe.
Meanwhile, most of the upcoming season’s handsome lads hail from New South Wales, including 28-year-old gardener Jerome, stuntman Eddy, 31, and DJ Frank, 25.
TikTok star Jake (31), influencer Jin (25), model Joey (23), musician Minjarrah (30) and expat Vicente (27) will also appear in the New South Wales matchmaking series.
