FORT WORTH, Texas — A CrossFit Games competitor died Thursday morning during a swimming competition on a lake in Texas.
CrossFit CEO Don Faul said at a press conference that they were “deeply saddened” by the death of one of their athletes and that they were working with authorities to investigate the death.
A Fort Worth Fire Department official said they were called to assist police around 8 a.m. because there was “a participant in the water who had not been seen in some time.”
He said they were responding to search and rescue and were not on scene when the first call was made. He said the athlete’s body was found about an hour later.
Faul said CrossFit had security personnel on site at the event.
Faul said the CrossFit community is like a family. “We are doing everything we can to support the family and our community during this tragic time,” Faul said.
A police spokesperson said the athlete’s name is not being released at this time.
