ST. LOUIS — A 4-year-old boy died from a gunshot wound he sustained in a St. Louis home with no adults present, police said.
Officers were called to the home late Monday night by a child and found the injured child unconscious and barely breathing. The 4-year-old was taken to the hospital in a police car, where he died, the St. Louis Post-Shipping reported.
According to police, there were four children under the age of 10 in the home, with no adults present. Police are investigating whether another child had the weapon that shot the 4-year-old.
The mother came to the hospital. Police said investigators are trying to determine who was responsible for supervising the children.
According to data from the Post-Dispatch, 15 children 17 or younger will be killed by gunfire in the St. Louis metropolitan area in 2024.
