Walmart has revealed plans to expand its drone-delivery service to five new locations in the US as it works towards offering it in 100 different places.
First announced back in 2021, Walmart’s drone delivery service offers the ability to receive your online orders in as little as 30 minutes.
Since then, the retailer has made more than 150,000 deliveries despite only being available in two areas: Northwest Arkansas and Dallas-Fort Worth, with the former being where Walmart is headquartered.
Announced in early June, Walmart is now looking to expand its delivery service to five new locations and plans to offer it in 100 total areas by June 2026.
Walmart announces drone delivery expansion
According to a press release, Walmart has partnered with drone delivery company Wing to help expand the service to five new major cities:
- Atlanta, Georgia
- Charlotte, North Carolina
- Houston, Texas
- Orlando, Florida
- Tampa, Florida
These new locations are just the start, according to Walmart, as it said in the press release, drone delivery will “remain a key part in our commitment to redefining retail.” According to Wing CEO Adam Woodworth, the service is already proving to be successful in its current areas.
“People all around the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex have made drone delivery part of their normal shopping habits over the past year,” he said.
Back in 2023, TikToker thebriihive went viral after uploading a video of her Walmart drone delivery in Texas. She said from the time of the order to the time of delivery, it took about 15 minutes.
According to Walmart, the drone delivery service will let customers order last-minute essentials like ice cream, eggs, pet food, and medicine… but not everything will be quickly available. On its website, the company states that there is a size and weight restriction for some of its in-store items.
