Information reads: “Hammer attack in Krefeld. Police shoot “man” after he hit several moviegoers in the head with a hammer at CINEMAXX.”
Dramatic scenes unfolded outside the “Cinemaxx” theater in Krefeld, North Rhine-Westphalia, where a man threw incendiary devices at the cinema, after already setting off similar devices at three other locations. The suspect, who appeared to be attempting to enter the cinema, was shot by police, leaving him critically injured.
At 7:50 PM local time, the man reportedly threw an incendiary device at the Federal Employment Agency building, then set fire to a car parked nearby before fleeing toward the main train station. Simultaneously, a nearby apartment building’s roof frame caught fire, which authorities suspect was also caused by the same individual.
When the man arrived at the Cinemaxx, police intercepted him. Two officers drew their service weapons and fired at him in the theater’s entrance area. At least one bullet struck the suspect, causing him to collapse with severe injuries. He was rushed to a nearby clinic for treatment.
