Mumbai Indians’ ex-captain Rohit Sharma was seen stopping the spectators from booing Hardik Pandya in a video that has gone viral on social media. The right-handed batter was seen making gestures with his hand when fielding near the boundary, urging fans to calm down and watch the proceedings.

Since replacing Rohit Sharma as the skipper of the Mumbai Indians, Hardik has been facing backlash repeatedly. The booing of the crowd has especially been jarring as the spectators booed him uncontrollably during the first two games at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

A fan jumped the security fence at the Wankhede Stadium to hug Rohit Sharma during Mumbai’s first home game of IPL 2024 against Rajasthan on Monday, April 1. The pitch invader ran onto the pitch and stormed toward Rohit Sharma, taking the former MI captain by surprise. The fan hugged Rohit and wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan before he tried to escape security officials and run out of the field of play.

The pitch invader was grabbed by security officials and taken out of the field. The fan, who was wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans, started celebrating with his arms in the air after managing to interact with Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan. Rohit Sharma was fielding at the slip cordon on Monday when the fan invaded the pitch in Mumbai’s defence of 125 against Rajasthan.

Meanwhile, the five-time champions had been heavily under the scanner leading to the crucial game against the Royals. However, their batting performance plummeted to a new low on Tuesday as they managed only 125 on the board after Royals skipper Sanju Samson put them into bat.

Trent Boult ripped into the Mumbai Indians’ batting unit, dismissing Rohit Sharma, Naman Dhir, and Dewald Brevis for golden ducks. Only captain Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma managed above 30 runs as the five-time champions huffed and puffed their way to 125-9 in their stipulated 20 overs.
