EFF fighter Ringo Madlingozi quietly quits EFF to regain his relevance in the music industry, seeing that EFF is not growing and MPs are getting fired by Julius he had to do the right thing.

He said after EMI was bought by Universal Music, he has been sort of floating solo in the musical space.

“I learnt the importance of owning my music with the help of the late copyright Professor Dr Greame ‘Squire’ Gilfillan. I managed to keep my music under my ownership meanwhile it was just floating on the internet being uploaded by anyone who felt the need to do so.

“I eventually sought ways of pulling all my music down from the net. Mr Watson was looking for my music on the net and not finding it,” he said.

Ringo said that call resulted in him giving Sony the exclusive rights to oversee his music catalogue.

The Afro-soul singer and songwriter, whose real name is Zanemvula Madlingozi, has returned to Sony Music Entertainment Africa after a couple of years of being an independent artist.

The 59-year-old Sondela hitmaker told Daily Sun it’s refreshing to be back and working on new projects with Sony Music.

“The best thing about being in Sony’s space right now is that I am back where I started in terms of leadership. The driver of the Sony ship today, Mr Sean Watson, is the one who was in charge of EMI/ CCP Record company when I joined the musical space in 1996,” he said.

They report that the claimed reason for Mayengani’s departure was that fellow musician Ringo Madlingozi was preferred over him to go to parliament as one of the EFF’s 44 MPs following the May elections.

The EFF confirmed the councillor’s resignation, but said that their records still held that Mayengani was a party member.

Other EFF members the tabloid spoke to claimed Mayengani had been “ill-disciplined” and “threw his toys” over what he perceived as a snub from the party.
