Theonette’s husband, Johan Smith (55), a teacher at a primary school near Brits, stands accused of murdering his wife.  Smith appeared in the Brits magistrate’s court today (8 Nov 2024) where his bail application was denied.

Smith had initially reported his wife missing on Sunday, 13 October, saying she had left home after an argument. After identifying her body, police went to the Smith’s  home which is on a farm in the Rashoop area.  There was blood found in the home and it looked like someone had tried to clean the scene.

Smith was arrested hours after the discovery of Theonette’s body.
