The High Court has heard that accused number 5, Fisokuhle Ntuli, called Kelly Khumalo on 2 occasions on Aug 2 2014 & 15 October 2014.
Kelly Khumalo received two calls from accused number 5, Fisokuhle Ntuli, days before Senzo Meyiwa was killed.
Senzo Meyiwa’s girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo, was called by one of the men accused of the soccer star’s murder before his death, a police officer told the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Thursday.
The State’s fourth witness, Colonel Lambertus Steyn, who is based at the national cold case unit, is employed as a data analyst and investigation officer.
Steyn could not say whether Kelly’s other cellphone from which data was wiped off immediately after 1am on the morning following Meyiwa’s killing, was already in the police’s possession when the information was deleted from it. He says even if the cellphone was already confiscated by the police, the deletion could still have happened remotely.
Earlier, the court heard how Kelly’s mother touched Meyiwa’s lower legs and begged him not to die on them.
According to the state’s third witness, Nthabiseng Mokete, who was in the car with her friend Yolanda Motha when the incident happened, MaKhumalo, as she’s referred, wailed after she was told that Meyiwa had died.
“She was busy touching Senzo’s lower legs saying please ‘don’t do that to us. What will we say to the Meyiwas?’ After she was informed that Senzo was no more, she blasted into a cry,” says Mokete.
Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng, on the alternative version by the defense that there were no intruders and that Meyiwa was killed by the people who were in the house, asked if she thought MaKhumalo was faking it when she cried.
“It didn’t appear like she was acting,” says Mokete.

Mokete: Kelly was crying from the moment Senzo was being taken out of the car and was pushed into the hospital, she was bitterly crying.
He analysed cellphone data records of people who were with Meyiwa on the night he was killed.
Steyn dropped the bombshell that he found two records of phone calls to one of Khumalo’s cellphones from a number linked to accused Fisokuhle Ntuli, sometime in August 2014, just two months before Meyiwa was gunned down.
Five men are on trial for the murder of the soccer star, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Fisokuhle Nkani Ntuli. They face charges of premeditated murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravated circumstances, possession of firearms without a licence and possession of ammunition. All five men pleaded not guilty as the trial has started afresh.
Ntuli, Bongani Ntanzi, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Mthobisi Mncube, and Mthokoziseni Maphisa are on trial for Meyiwa’s murder.
They face charges of murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition.
