Morara Kebaso To Be Charged For ‘Kufa Dereva, Kufa Makanga’ Remarks At Bomas

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) accused Morara of creating a disturbance in a manner likely to breach the peace.

Hours after being arrested by police on Tuesday, October 8, for the second time, lawyer and activist, Morara Kebaso has been accused of making remarks that sparked the chaotic events at Bomas of Kenya during the public participation exercise on Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment motion.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), in a charge sheet seen by Viral Tea, accused Morara of creating a disturbance in a manner likely to breach the peace.

In particular, he was fingered for uttering the following remarks; ‘Kufa dereva kufa makanga‘ which the DCI believed triggered the chaotic scenes at Bomas.

“On the 4th of October 2024 at Bomas of Kenya in Langata Sub-county within Nairobi County while attending a public participation forum to impeach the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua with others not before Court did create disturbance in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by uttering the words ‘kufa dereva kufa makanga‘ which made the public to react to the utterances,” the charge sheet read.

Morara earlier disclosed that “I have been arrested over what happened at Bomas. Can you imagine? Does it even make sense?” he posed in surprise on his X account.

According to his lawyer, the activist was apprehended around 11 am and forcefully bundled into a Subaru vehicle, commonly associated with DCI officers.

In a series of tweets, Morara’s lawyer, Pareno Solonka, expressed concern, stating, “Morara has just been bundled into this Subaru by DCI officials. We don’t know where he is being taken or the reasons for being taken.” The lawyer later confirmed that Morara had been transported to Langata Police Station.

Morara, who had attended the public participation on the special motion seeking to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, was forced to leave after he was violently attacked. Morara sustained injuries in the attack.

When Kebaso arrived at the convocation on Friday, he was greeted with hostility. Shortly after he took his seat, he was attacked by an unidentified group of individuals who threw chairs at him, injuring his head, neck, and legs.

This latest arrest came hours after he revealed that he received intelligence of a plot to arrest him in connection to his attack at Bomas, adding that he was to be blamed for the whole chaotic incident despite being the main victim and gaining access to the venue with just one other member of his team.

Having incurred injuries as a result of the attack, he decided to switch hospitals from the one he was admitted to, as soon as it emerged the facility he was being treated at but decided to pass by the office to pick something.

However, he decided to leave his phones in case he was being tracked but no one came to the office to arrest him, a matter he attributed to a mole planted in his circles whom he believes had confirmed he was not there.

The mole, he claimed, was planted by the National Intelligent Service (NIS), raising eyebrows over the claim he made based on a series of unusual occurrences. “In my team, the NIS placed a mole a long time ago. This is the truth. I have a mole in my team,” Kebaso narrated.

His conclusion, he revealed, came after experiencing several suspicious activities including his car accident that happened in Embu a few weeks ago, and on that, he recalled that despite initially dismissing claims that the accident had been planned, a background check on the affected vehicle made him change his mind.

Regarding his dramatic arrest on September 30, he expressed suspicions that he raised, revealing that a phone call had been made from his headquarters to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirming his presence at the office.

“Someone was called here and asked if the boss was in. After that, he called the DCI. When DCI came to this office for an arrest, they didn’t guess. They didn’t look for my office. Remember this compound is so big with so many offices. They came straight to my office as if they already had the plan and layout of the office,” he revealed in a video he posted on his X account.
