At this point, Disney has remade so many animated classics, that it’s started to move on to some of its more modern releases, and we recently got confirmation that the Mouse House is now looking at a movie that came out just over a decade ago.

Nyong’o is best known for her Academy Award-winning performance in 2013’s 12 Years a Slave and her roles in Marvel Studios’ Black Panther and Jordan Peele’s Us. She is set to star in the spin-off prequel film A Quiet Place: Day One in 2024.

“Hard-working and ambitious, Tiana (Anika Noni Rose) dreams of one day opening the finest restaurant in New Orleans. Her dream takes a slight detour when she meets Prince Naveen (Bruno Campos), who has been turned into an amphibian by evil Dr. Facilier. Mistaking her for a princess and hoping to break the spell, Naveen plants a kiss on poor Tiana — thereby turning her into a frog as well. The pair hop along on an adventure through the bayous to seek the help of a powerful voodoo priestess.”

The Princess and the Frog was a big critical and commercial hit for Disney, so it was probably only a matter of time before they go around to giving it the live-action treatment.

Lupita Nyong’o is rumored to be one of the actresses being eyed to play Tiana in Disney’s live-action adaptation of ‘The Princess and the Frog.’

A television spin-off titled Tiana was announced in December 2020 for Disney+. Stella Meghie is serving as writer and director of the project, with original cast members, including Anika Noni Rose returning. Walt Disney Animation Studios chief creative officer Jennifer Lee revealed in January 2022 that Meghie had expressed interest in developing the live-action film adaptation.
