Benjamin Mendy will try to recover “all or part” of his financial losses after his salary was frozen since his arrest in August 2021

Benjamin Mendy will try to recover “all or part” of his financial losses after his salary was frozen since his arrest in August 2021.

Legal talks with his former club Manchester City are expected to begin at the end of the month.

Former Manchester City left-back Benjamin Mendy (29) intends to seek financial compensation from the Citizens after being suspended by the Premier League side. According to a feature from L’Equipe on Monday, talks between the newly-signed Lorient player and the Premier League champions have already started. The 2018 World Cup winner has been cleared of all the charges of sexual crimes against him last month. Only days after the verdict, Mendy has signed a two-year contract with the Brittany-based Ligue 1 outfit.

Mendy withdrew from the France squad following his participation in Sunday’s derby win against Manchester United in the Premier League.

No timetable has been set for Mendy’s recovery after this latest procedure. However, the player sounded optimistic after the surgery, even making light of his popularity among fantasy football players:

This is the second time Mendy has had surgery for problems with his knees since moving to Manchester last summer. He signed for City in a then-world-record deal for a defender, worth £52 million, after helping Monaco win the Ligue 1 title in the 2016/17 campaign.

Mendy’s debut season at the Etihad Stadium was curtailed when he tore the ACL in his right knee, forcing him to miss seven months.

He returned at the start of this season and added an extra dimension to City’s already awesome attack.

However, Mendy’s judicial journey may not be over yet. The French publication reveals that the French international’s wages were frozen when Manchester City announced his suspension as soon as his arrest has been made public on August 26th, 2021. Mendy’s five-year contract with the Citizens expired last June, during his second trial. L’Équipe understands that the player is considering under what conditions he could recover all or a portion of the frozen wages during those last two years. As part of his fitness recovery process, Mendy is not expected to feature in Lorient’s Ligue 1 opening game away at PSG on Saturday.
