Travis Scott faces angry backlash from Trainwreck: The Astroworld Tragedy viewers

Travis Scott has yet to respond to the new Netflix documentary Trainwreck: The Astroworld Tragedy, but viewers have made their opinions known by flooding his social media pages with angry comments.

On November 5, 2021, the rapper took to the stage for his annual music festival at NRG Park in Houston, Texas, where 50,000 fans descended for the post-pandemic event of the decade.

However, as is revealed in the new documentary, it soon turned into a real-life horror story. A combination of factors meant that too many attendants flooded the main stage for Scott’s performance, leading to a crowd crush that left 10 people dead.

While viewers were already calling on the management team Live Nation to be boycotted, now they’re turning attention to Scott himself.

Over on Scott’s Instagram page, viewers of the Netflix documentary have inundated a number of his latest posts with messages suggesting he should stop performing and acknowledge the victims.

While poor layout design, lack of coordination between staff, and security lapses all had a part to play in the incident, Scott himself has a history of chaos at his live events.

In 2015, he was arrested for disorderly conduct for encouraging fans to jump security barriers and rush the stage during his set at Lollapalooza.

He was later sued after a crowd surge at a 2017 New York City show led to Kyle Green being pushed off a balcony, leaving him partially paralyzed.

Even after the Astroworld tragedy, massive crowds headed to his 2023 show in Rome, Italy, causing an earthquake-like event, while 60 attendees sought medical attention due to pepper spray.

While fans remain divided on who holds the most responsibility for the tragedy, many viewers of the documentary believe Scott should have shown greater awareness of what was unfolding in front of him, stopped the show sooner, and taken more meaningful steps in the aftermath.

Critics accuse him of failing to push for stricter safety protocols at future events, especially after he continued working with Live Nation – the same promoter behind Astroworld – for his Circus Maximus tour.

On Scott’s Instagram account, a recently shared clip from one of his shows has received dozens of angry comments since the release of Trainwreck: The Astroworld Tragedy.

“How on earth do you still have your career, man?” asked one, while another said, “Take accountability for your actions.” A third added, “So sad. 10 young kids lost their lives!! You never listen to them.”

A fourth chimed in, “Sees people dying and still keep the show going on. That’s some greedy business.” One went as far as to say, “Netflix just destroyed your career. Well deserved.”

Another simply asked, “Why didn’t you stop the show?” And one said, “It’s incredible you keep performing after what happened in 2021, sick.” Scott has yet to respond to the documentary or the backlash.
