New language learning methods complement each other

Studying a foreign language opens up new possibilities in a globalized world. It also assists in creating a prosperous future with a high salary and a fantastic fortune. Today’s youth often look for an easy way to practice learning a foreign language by using apps. You don’t need to study at the language center multiple times per week, or deal with boring language clubs in school. There is a more convenient and accessible option that they’re looking for today— learning foreign languages on your phone. Learning languages requires a state of open-mindedness and peace. I’ve found that no matter what approach I use, my understanding won’t be truly ingrained unless my mind is unperturaded. Each language learning app provides unique strengths that should be considered when choosing an app. I’ve long held this belief since childhood. After months of anticipation, a language learning app meets all my criteria. In June 2012, Carnegie Mellon University USA’s two computer programmers Luis von Ahn and Severin Hacker launched an app titled Duolingo. The purpose of Duolingo was to teach people a foreign language through instructional lessons paired with interactive exercises. Since its release on the app stores, the app has attracted over 50 million users within the first two years of operation. As of now, it is one of the most popular language-learning apps worldwide.

Duolingo’s goal is to help people learn while they play by using exercises that are interactive and fun. The app uses games that test users’ knowledge of grammar, conversation, vocabulary and writing skills. The exercises are designed to be hard enough to challenge each level but still easy enough for anyone to play. A major focus of each challenge is the development of four vital language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The main reason why language challenges are considered interesting is because they reuse content in different ways to help users understand both their head and heart. Each challenge has a similar structure to an actual foreign language school with multiple levels. Each of these levels has its own set of smaller subcategories. These subcategories are easier to memorize and recall thanks to the topics they are based on such as Animals, Colors, Family, Hats, Locations, Nouns, Numbers and adjectives. There are also diplomas in Food and Present as well as Advances in Adjectives, Directions and Plurals. As indicated above, users of Duolingo must consider their language skill’s integration when completing each round. They must also successfully complete each of the following four requirements in a single sequence: correct spelling, grammar, listening through the reading and intonation/proper pronunciation. Many specialists claim Duolingo’s voice recognition function is standard. The app records your reading and flags any grammatical errors. You correct any misused words or phrases and attempt the exercise again if you exceed the challenge’s parameters. Daily learning sessions built around short, fun exercises are incredibly addictive. Each day, users are riveted by the next exciting task they must complete in their learning journey. In addition to collecting badges and points, these learning experiences provide a release from everyday stress. Learning English is made more difficult and challenging thanks to the computer storing certificates for hard tests. Additionally, each test has a set time limit that increases difficulty.

Duolingo features free, small-sized flashcards that students can use to practice and rehearse vocabulary. Because of the resemblance between these cards and real life flashcards, students can easily repeat words with ease. People have reservations about foreign language learning apps and Duolingo. One of the reasons is the lack of inoffensive points. Duolingo’s educational method is easy to understand and appreciate. However, you’ll start hating Duolingo when you gain a certain level of understanding and confidence with the language. Duolingo’s content is fine for new learners, but you should skip it if you want to investigate more deeply. Currently, Duolingo doesn’t have an in-depth understanding of grammar rules. You can connect the app with a grammar notebook to add to your overall knowledge. A future update may even add this functionality, which is amazing for everyone involved. Correctly reading standard language on Duolingo requires switching between multiple languages without any flexibility.
