Nintendo Switch 2 owners have reported instances of the console automatically disabling rumble features if it detects “prolonged use.”
What constitutes that otherwise undefined period isn’t clear, and reports of the automated response behaving erratically have emerged on social media since the console’s launch on June 5, 2025.
Sharing their experiences on the Switch 2 subreddit, one user stated, “I was getting this message originally after about an hour and a half of handheld playtime,” adding, “Now it shows within the first 20 minutes. Anyone else having this issue?”
In the thread’s attached image, the user’s Switch 2, running The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, displays a notification stating, “Rumble has been turned off due to prolonged use.”
What’s the cause?
As of writing, Nintendo’s troubleshooting support page doesn’t mention any known issues with the Switch 2’s rumble feature, either not working as intended or not at all.
Likewise, users in the same Reddit thread reported experiencing the same problem after between five and 20 minutes of playtime. Several different users specifically mentioned CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077 as the game they were playing when affected.
With the Switch 2’s battery lasting anywhere between two to six hours when undocked, the feature could be Nintendo’s attempt to preserve battery life or prevent overheating. This is purely speculation, however.
