Nathan Fillion has delivered a brutal assessment of his Superman character, calling Guy Gardner the worst of the Green Lanterns, and mocking his lack of fear when it comes to the Man of Steel.
The first Green Lantern film was a critical and commercial failure, so-much-so that star Ryan Reynolds mercilessly mocked the movie in Deadpool 2.
But the new DC Universe is making proper plans for the character via a forthcoming series called Lanterns, that stars Aaron Pierce as the John Stewart incarnation of the character.
Before that Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern is appearing in Superman, and actor Nathan Fillion has been describing his version of the character.
The Guy Gardner Green Lantern believes he can beat Superman
In James Gunn’s Superman, Guy Gardner/Green Lantern is part of the so-called ‘Justice Gang,’ alongside Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl, and Michael Holt/Mister Terrific.
Guy is also a member of the Green Lantern Corps, but star Nathan Fillion has revealed that Gardner isn’t exactly the best of the best. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the actor said: “I love the idea that if you have an emergency and you need a Green Lantern – there’s thousands of them out there in the galaxy – this is the last one you want.”
But he’s not lacking in confidence, as Fillion added: “What is very true about Guy Gardner – and what James understands very well – is you don’t have to be good and pure of heart to be a Green Lantern. You just have to be fearless. You just have to have the will. And Guy Gardner thinks he can take on Superman. That’s how fearless he is. No, you can’t take on Superman, dude!”
But using his Power Ring, Gardner can nevertheless create pretty much anything his mind can imagine, and EW said that it’s put to use during a big battle in Superman, wherein Guy “conjures a giant green hand out of the ground to slap away a troupe of soldiers.”
