Summer Game Fest 2025 Predictions: What to expect

Summer Game Fest 2025 is the year’s biggest set of game reveals and trailers, giving people something to look forward going into the rest of 2025 and beyond.

While a select few big titles like Death Stranding 2 are already confirmed for the event, the slate is mostly up in the air at this point. Now that GTA 6 has been delayed out of 2025, publishers will be showing up full force to get their games out for the holiday season.

Here’s our full slate of Summer Game Fest 2025 predictions and what you should expect to see at the show:

Hollow Knight Silksong gets shadowdropped

The time is now. Considering this game is getting a literal museum exhibit this year, there’s more reason than ever to believe this game will not only come out this year, but that it’ll get a release date at this event.

Or, even better, Silksong could just shadow drop. I wouldn’t put it past Team Cherry to not provide a release date for six years and then just immediately drop the game. It’s already been six years with no release date and we know the game is in a finished enough state to be shown publicly, why wouldn’t they just shadow drop it? People would lose their minds.

Resident Evil 9 gets revealed

Resident Evil 4 feels like a good spot to take a break from remakes and move forward with the series, preferably with a third-person entry this time around rather than 7 and 8’s first person perspective. Ethan Winters’ storyline has wrapped, and it feels like the right time to give the reins to classic RE characters and let their story continue.

That said, it’d be great to see a remake of Code: Veronica, too. Most modern Resident Evil fans never got to play it, and it’d be a great pick for a remake. Either way, it’s hard to imagine that we don’t get at least some sort of news about the Resident Evil series this year.

Lost Planet makes a comeback

While we’re on the topic of Capcom, this feels like the perfect time to bring back the Lost Planet series. Considering how successful Helldivers 2 has been, there’s a clear appetite for co-op shooters that pit players against the odds. This isn’t a Hail Mary prediction, either, there’s a very real chance that this happens.

Though they’re still delisted from purchase on the Steam store, every Lost Planet game mysteriously had their Games for Windows Live restriction lifted recently, making them playable on PC for the first time in years (though the way they did it unfortunately deleted users’ save data and removed online). It’s hard to think of any reason Capcom would do this other than to bring back the old games or perhaps revive the series. Honestly, I’d just be happy with the ability to play Lost Planet 2 again.

Perfect Dark gets a release window of 2026

Microsoft has been slowly but surely prying their way out of the first-party slump, dropping some fantastic titles like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and South of Midnight. The Outer Worlds 2 is set to be their big showcase title this year, but news about Perfect Dark feels overdue.

However, there’s a good chance that this game will look a bit different from the last time we saw it as a pre-rendered mockup of what gameplay may look like.

Nintendo announces a new Mario game

Considering the Nintendo Switch 2 will have just released by the time Summer Game Fest rolls around, it’d be no surprise for the gaming giant to save at least one big reveal for an existing IP to get people to buy consoles.

While many games have already been revealed, there are some glaring omissions. No Mario-focused adventure at launch for a Nintendo console is almost unheard of, so it’d be no surprise for Nintendo to reveal the next big Mario title here.

Virtua Fighter 6 finally gets a gameplay reveal

SEGA’s been teasing Virtua Fighter 6 for a long time, showing mere gameplay mockups and the possibilities of Nvidia’s graphics tech.

However, we’ve yet to see real gameplay. Virtua Fighter 5 still holds up extremely well despite its age, and SEGA’s been investing big into reviving their esports circuit and generating hype for the series.

It’d be a real surprise not to see Virtua Fighter 6 here in some capacity unless the developer decides to focus all of Ryu Ga Gotoku’s resources on Project Century instead of targeting a 2025 release, which is entirely possible.

Marvel vs Capcom 4 (or Capcom vs SNK 3)

There are rumblings that something big is going to be happening in the realm of fighting games at Summer Games Fest, and it’s not Virtua Fighter. With Capcom putting a ton of effort into revitalizing old fighting games, it’d be no surprise to see a crossover fighter get announced here.

We interviewed Street Fighter 6 producer Shuhei Matsumoto in 2024, and he already confirmed that the team is interested in making a new Marvel vs Capcom game.

We spoke to Matsumoto again just a few weeks ago at the time of writing, and he said this on the topic of a new Capcom vs SNK: “The creation of a new ‘Capcom vs SNK’ title is something that the entire fighting game development team, including myself, have always wanted to achieve.”

While the team’s desires are by no means a confirmation that they’re working on these projects, it does make their existence a lot more likely.

Half Life 3 and Skate 4 both get shown

We already know EA’s working on a new Skate game, but we haven’t seen it in action yet. There have also been assets discovered in Valve’s Deadlock purportedly related to Half-Life 3’s development, with some dataminers believing the title has been in active development for years at this point.

Both games are common jokes when talking about games that are never going to get released, yet there’s a good chance both titles get shown off this year. It’d be the best way to kill two memes at once.

io Interactive finally shows their James Bond game

io Interactive confirmed that they’re working on the next James Bond game, but they haven’t shown any footage yet. There’s only been the initial announcement. Considering they’ll be at this event, it’d be no surprise to finally get a name and date for the project.

The studio has had tremendous success with bringing back the Hitman series, but I seriously doubt they’re showing up to reveal a new Hitman game when they’ve got a massive IP like James Bond bagged.

That wraps up our big bets for Summer Game Fest 2025! While there are some games we’d love to see from our favorite franchises, we believe that the listed predictions above all have a good chance of happening. Tune in to the Summer Game Fest to see whether or not we’ve missed the mark on our predictions, or if we ended up being spot-on.
