Many people are calling out Nicole Barlow for making a controversial statement on social media. Her statement, “We missed an opportunity to do a Chris Hani on him….” is trending on social media now as people call on the police to immediately arrest her. She was directly referring to Gwede Mantashe for not signing a deal today. It offended Nicole Barlow who after tweeting the above controversial statement also added, “It might be, but I have no hard feelings about Mantashe or anyone else in the ANC.
I have no such feelings about ordinary people in the country, the vast majority of who are suffering unimaginable hardships because of a handful of awful people in the government.
Truth be told, I have, since 1994, spent my life in the belly of the beast, and I am so hardened and thoroughly disgusted by what I’ve seen and had to watch other people – like children – suffer through, as a result of this malevolent government, that keeping quiet is no longer an option. Had I said this about an ordinary person, that would’ve been shameful”.
Many people are calling for her arrest, including prof Moya who said that this kind of statement must not be tolerated, no matter who is involved. Many people say she crossed her boundaries by making this statement. Someone wrote, “Mantashe must be doing something good if the likes of Nicole Barlow want to get rid of him. Let’s hope that the police attend to this Waluz wannabe”. Nicole Barlow, however, have defended her tweet, saying that it is the same with “kill the Boer” song by Julius Malema. But someone tagged the South African Police, “’We missed an opportunity to do a Chris Hani on him” meaning you are part of the people that planned his assassination, you should be in prison @SAPoliceService come this side”.
