Government Spokesperson, Alpheous Nxumalo, has challenged the African National Congress (ANC) Secretary General, Fikile Mbalula, to focus on issues affecting the organisation. According to Nxumalo, the ANC is a political party in decline and paralysed by corruption, crime, division and factionalism. Nxumalo’s response comes after Mbalula said the ANC does not remove governments as it wished. He said if that was the case, they would have long removed what was happening in Eswatini. Mbalula expressed these sentiments while commenting on the current Russia-Ukraine war.
The Spokesperson of His Majesty’s government wondered where Mbalula would get the time to remove whatever it was that he said would be removed because the ANC, both at party and government level was faced with serious challenges that needed to be removed as early as yesterday. He said it was unclear as to what exactly Mbalula was referring to in his comments.
“When will Fikile Mbalula get the time to remove anything from anywhere,” Nxumalo questioned. He said the ANC was also grappling with load-shedding, which had crippled the SA economy and had reduced international investor confidence to almost zero percent. Worth noting is the fact that Swaziland has been facing civil unrest after protests broke out in June of 2021.
Nxumalo said the ANC, according to Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, was also failing to put in place measures to avoid a second or a repeat of a State capture. “The ANC, a political party is preoccupied with the persecution of its former leaders such as president Jacob Zuma and Ace Magashule while its present leadership is busy with the removal of the bad and negative reputation emanating from present day-to-day scandals of a leadership, accused of being bankrolled by criminals,” said Nxumalo.
He said with these issues facing Mbalula and the ANC, he would not have the time to remove anything from anywhere, including that which he wrongly perceived needed to be removed in his so-called ‘Swaziland’. Nxumalo reminded Mbalula that there was no country in the world called Swaziland and as the secretary general he should be reflective to be able to be precise with sovereign state’s names.
“Thirdly, if perhaps, by Swaziland, Fikile Mbalula was referring to ‘Eswatini’, well, our position is that whatever things that requires to be removed in Eswatini, they will be removed by Emaswati themselves and they need no assistance from external political parties to do so,” he said. Nxumalo stated that Mbalula and the ANC were preoccupied with their own particular issues which require to be removed, in order to have the audacity and the appetite to remove anything from other sovereign states.
