There are calls from many people to Home Affairs, calling on the Minister, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi to strip Zimbabwean and ZANU-PF activist, Rutendo off South African citizenship. This is coming after the controversial Retendo whose real name is Rutendo Matinyarare, made a video, saying that Zimbabweans are the one to teach South Africans something about Freedom. He said South Africa is not fully liberated like Zimbabwe, lambasting Julius Malema for saying that Zimbabweans must go home to vote. Rutendo is a ZANU-PF sympathizers and doesn’t welcome anyone calls for a vote against the Zimbabwean ruling party. A social media user wrote, “Can Home Affairs explain the basis for granting Rutendo a ZEP, considering he suffers no persecution, frequents Zimbabwe, no critical skill, creates no jobs, and obviously hates education so not studying.Why is he in South Africa?”.
People are saying that he is not qualified for whatever citizenship or ZEP because he is literally part of Zanu-pf; hence he is not suffering from any political persecution, rather he is among those persecuting opponents of the ZANU-PF. Another person wrote that Rutendo is insulting the whole South Africa, and yet, he is still living and working in South Africa. He lambasted Rutendo for not living in Zimbabwe, since he claimed that Zimbabwe is better and fully liberated. Another person asked the Minister of Home Affairs to consider stripping Rutendo and his acolytes of any citizenship they are holding in South Africa. He added, “Section 8(2)(B) of the Citizenship act grants the minister (DOH) a discretion to deprive fools like Rutendo their naturalized citizen status. Min Aaron Motsoaledi should seriously consider using this provision for people like Rutendo and Simba”. A popular social media influencer decried, “Rutendo is insulting South Africans and South Africa as a whole and all you say is “Teach”? You all are the reason other foreign nationals see us as clowns, and most importantly, the reason The West believes that a black person can’t rule sustainably”.
