“So, the ANC has no ideological posture against the DA?” Mzwanele Manyi.

The Economic Freedom Fighters leader and Member of Parliament Mzwanele Manyi has reacted with shock to the possibilities of a coalition between the ruling party and the Democratic Alliance. As we move towards the national elections next year, nobody knows what the outcomes will be like and if the ruling party fails to get the majority of votes, we might end up being led by a coalition government.

To avoid last-minute negotiations, it is best for political parties to weigh in their options now so that they can know which party will work best with them. The African National Congress’s NEC member Thembi Nkadimeng has indicated that her party is apparently open to the DA about possibilities of a coalition between the two parties.

Nkadimeng indicated that the DA is part of the talks that comrade Paul Mashatile is leading. She highlighted that it was previously difficult when we came out of the 2021 elections for the two parties to negotiate about coalition. Apparently, the situation has now changed, and the two parties are willing to share some ideas about coalition government.

“Today we are saying let’s come to the table. I think it is the maturing of democracy, which by the way, we might not be understanding the system, particularly at local government level.” Nkadimeng said as she hinted that coalition government is a multi-party governing system at local government level.

However, Mzwanele Manyi seems so unconvinced about what Nkadimeng has said. “So, the ANC has no ideological posture against the DA? Could this be the reason that the declared enemy no 1 of the DA is the EFF? So, a vote for the DA is a vote for the ANC, similarly a vote for the ANC is a vote for the DA? Did I hear comrade Thembi’s maturing democracy incorrectly?” Manyi said.

The EFF is currently in coalition with the ANC and other small parties in the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality. Maybe the EFF leader should tell us whether a vote for his party is equally a vote for the ruling party, or the other way around.
