President Ramaphosa Has Finally Revealed Why he Embarked on His Ukraine And Russia Visit

President Cyril Ramaphosa has stated his reason for embarking on the peace mission to Ukraine and Russia. He made this revelation via the weekly newsletter and also shared it on Twitter. He said that as African leaders, their primary concern is to reach out to those in conflict, saying that such mandated them to embark on the peace mission. President Cyril Ramaphosa disclosed, “As African leaders, our primary concern is for the lives of the people directly affected by the conflict. We believe that everything should be done to end the fighting”. He noted that it is certainly not out of place to reach out to those in conflict zones, saying that that is a primary duty of leaders. The president noted that peace is paramount everywhere. He also disclosed, “We presented a ten-point proposal that we as African leaders believe can contribute to various efforts that have been made by various parties to bring the conflict to an end”.

President Cyril Ramaphosa also used the medium to disclose that they were well received by both side, insisting that such a gesture is commendable and a sign that peace is still possible. He further stated, “One of the key achievements of the Peace Mission was the positive reception we received from both sides, which we found encouraging and which provides cause for optimism that the proposals will be given consideration”. President Cyril Ramaphosa said that the conflict has not affected Russia and Ukraine only but also the whole world, especially Africans. In the area of Africans, he said, “Both Russia and Ukraine are major suppliers of grains and producers of fertiliser destined for African markets. According to the African Development Bank, the conflict has “triggered a shortage of about 30 million tonnes of grains on the African continent, along with a sharp increase in cost.” As a result of this conflict, African countries are negatively affected by the rising costs of food and energy”. He made it known that all these moved the leaders to embark on the peace mission.
