Ntshaveni in public fight with Mdu Manana

A public tiff between minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni and national executive committee member Mduduzi Manana seems to have escalated.

Ntshavheni con­fron­ted Man­ana about remov­ing her name from the list of NEC deploy­ees to women’s league con­fer­ences. She accused Man­ana of using the con­fer­ence to “deal” with her and told him she was cap­able of doing the same.

This con­front­a­tion fol­lows sev­eral claims that Man­ana was mis­us­ing his pos­i­tion as head of organ­ising for fac­tional advances, includ­ing at the recent ANC Youth League’s national con­fer­ence where he was accused of gross inter­fer­ence that bordered on steal­ing the con­fer­ence.

The con­front­a­tion with Ntshavheni took place at mid­night after Baleka Mbete delivered her report on the state of the struc­ture and the coun­try that las­ted almost two hours.

Former min­is­ter of social devel­op­ment Bathabile Dlamini and deputy min­is­ter in the Pres­id­ency Sis­isi Tolashe were vying for the ANCWL pres­id­ency.

Nom­in­a­tion and vot­ing was expec­ted to take place yes­ter­day.

Moments after NEC and task team mem­bers left the stage fol­low­ing Mbete’s speech, Ntshavheni came across the floor towards Man­ana and told him she was there merely as a guest as he had removed her name from the list. A vis­ibly shocked Man­ana tried to hug Ntshavheni, but she charged on.

“You have made it clear that you are going to deal with me, and it’s fine. I can also do the same, I can also deal with you emasebeni [in the branches],” she said.

Dur­ing the con­front­a­tion, Ntshavheni said she had made it clear to Man­ana not to assign her to the ANC Youth League con­fer­ence because she wanted to be a deployee to this week­end’s women’s league gath­er­ing.

Some NEC mem­bers tried to calm the situ­ation, includ­ing Mondli Gun­gubele and David Mahlobo, but to no avail. A vis­ibly angry Ntshavheni told Man­ana that she did not take kindly to his decision to remove her name from a list of deploy­ees and that if it was a battle he wanted she was more than will­ing.

Man­ana tried to defend him­self, telling Ntshavheni that the list of deploy­ees to the con­fer­ence had to be changed sev­eral times as there were names on it of people who had no busi­ness attend­ing.
